CURRENT POSITIONS: NOTE: THE FOLLOWING JOB DESCRIPTION IS NOT CURRENT BUT IS PROVIDED AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE CAREER PATH WE CAN OFFER WHEN WE DO HAVE OPENINGS. APPROPRIATE CANDIDATES ARE WELCOME TO SUBMIT A COVER LETTER AND RESUME FOR FUTURE CONSIDERATION.
We are seeking to add one or more education professionals to our Menlo Park offices beginning this summer or fall. This is a rare, excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher to become part of a well-established professional practice. Our preference is for candidates who ultimately seek a full-time or near-full-time position, though this is NOT a full-time position at this time. It is necessary to gradually build a caseload with the support of our organization, which will require at least several months. Thus, appropriate candidates must be in a position to add hours gradually as referrals allow. Our education consultants typically provide individual academic tutoring in our offices Monday through Friday beginning in the afternoon (and infrequently and optionally some mornings) during the school year. A one-year commitment is expected at a minimum, and a long-term commitment is our goal.
QWERTY Education Services, founded in 1986, is a private practice of professionals offering expert individual tutoring, educational evaluation, and guidance to students of all ages and their families in our Menlo Park offices. Our staff includes a variety of specialists from the fields of learning disabilities, educational psychology, and educational therapy, as well as other tutors. Students come to us with a variety of needs including homework support, organization and motivation support, strategy-building to manage learning issues, remedial and enrichment skill-building, and more. Some have diagnosed learning differences that present specific challenges, while others simply require support to manage the myriad demands of local schools. Students range in age from first grade through high school and college. We seek candidates who are comfortable with either end of that spectrum.
Requirements:
Masters Degree in education or related field is desired. A minimum of two years teaching experience is required and tutoring experience is preferred. The exact nature of the teaching experience can be variable. Training and experience in formal learning assessment is helpful. A valid California teaching credential and a Learning Specialist (there are several appropriate certifications), Educational Therapist, Educational Psychologist, or Speech/Language certification are desirable. Strong English writing and editing skills and moderate computer competency are necessary. Other content-specific knowledge such as certain levels of higher math, science, etc. is not required, but is a plus. Professional and personal references will be consulted.
Compensation:
Employees are paid based on the number of hours that they tutor each month. A full-time employee commonly sees students for 18- 26 hours per week during a typical week that has no holidays. Considerable additional time is required for planning, preparation, and communication. Full-time employee earnings can be commensurate with many typical full-time teaching positions. Employees are responsible for their own medical, dental, and sick leave.
Application:
1. Please thoroughly familiarize yourself with our website before contacting us: http://www.qwertyed.com
2. Submit a cover letter and résumé via email (mark@qwertyed.com) and let us know the best way to contact you. Please allow one week for a response.
3. If we do not believe that you are a potential match for our position, we will let you know via email.
4. If we would like to consider you further for the position, we will request an initial informal phone or personal interview and/or that you download and complete an application [Word version] [pdf version] which you may return by email or fax.
5. Following a successful initial phone or personal interview, we will request written references and contact information so that we may speak directly with three references. A follow-up interview may be requested of final candidates.
